The Operational Problem
Burke & Wills wanted an ecommerce website that showcased products exactly how the brand team envisioned them. Their internal marketing lead was hands-on in design decisions, so the build needed both technical depth and high visual flexibility.
The project required a hybrid architecture: product content originates in CIN7, flows into Shopify, and is then consumed by a custom Laravel frontend. Payments are processed through Shopify and synced back to CIN7, while the on-site experience still had to feel fast, curated, and brand-led.
Why Off-The-Shelf Failed
Standard Shopify themes could not deliver the level of layout control and merchandising precision required by the marketing manager. At the same time, a standalone custom store without Shopify and CIN7 synchronization would have increased operational risk and manual handling.
What We Engineered
Programmable Soda built a custom Laravel ecommerce frontend that integrates directly with Shopify data while preserving a bespoke design system. We implemented a data pipeline where CIN7 feeds product content into Shopify, then the website reads live commerce data from Shopify for catalog and cart workflows. Checkout and payments run through Shopify and push order information back into CIN7, maintaining inventory and order continuity across systems. The cart process was engineered to be smooth and conversion-focused, and the product presentation layer was tuned precisely to the marketing manager's visual requirements. The result is a high-control storefront that the client now manages confidently in-house.

The internal team can manage updates independently, the storefront remains closely aligned to brand direction, and the business has required minimal ongoing support because the platform is stable and easy for them to operate.
“The platform gives us exactly the product presentation we wanted while keeping our backend systems in sync.”
